My Philosophy:
Given my childhood history (ACES-8), my time in military special operations/ civilian security contract work, and the 9 plus years I spent in combat/ warzones...I teach yoga from a position of strength!
Yoga is deeply rooted in war! So am I! I'm teaching my personal yoga practice from my heart! Out loud for free without regard for political correctness or progressive objectives. There is nothing sissy about yoga! The dichotomy that is me, is also found in yogas bible of sorts, "Bhagavad Gita". I'm practicing being the best version of the real me! This adventure has as much to do with the Widow as it does the Warrior! If you are tired of dragging your stressed out body through each day with your "Internal Volume" maxed out at a 10, come take a fork in the road and try something different! We are practicing feeling and being normal again for free!
BYS Studio Triad:
Provide a Safe, Loving and Quiet Space to practice Mindfulness Yoga. We ask that you leave your 'Ego' and all your 'Busy' outside the studio. It will be out there waiting on you with It's tail wagging! It will never leave you! I'm inviting you to practice leaving it! Just learn to let it all go and just Be. The science now proves that all that "busy" is associated with suffering! We are practicing these Mindfulness Tools to create a buffer in dealing with our own suffering.
Fundamental Principles & Tools:
(The Deckelman Warrior Series)
1. Monitor Your "Internal Volume" (0=heaven and 10=hell). Being calmly aware of your mind, chest, and belly and ask yourself, "am I busy or calm?" And practice taking back control of our Volume Nob.
2. Use Safe Shapes vs. Perfect Poses to create Good Stress. I can't learn anything from a Perfect Pose. You could be a horrible person and do Beautiful /Perfect Poses. It's just that, a "Pose!". We want to be safe and create stress. Things in nature that stop moving well almost instantly stop doing well! This is meant to be a Loving Hug! We don't want to get injured or beat ourselves up!
3. Grounded in the Present with Intention. Meaning, right now has your full attention vs. abandoning your body, compartmentalizing and checking-out. Every beautiful memory that you have has this one thing in common, for whatever reason, you didn't want to be anyplace else, and as a result all the pain and suffering of this world just melted away. If your yoga mat was 10 feet off the ground, you wouldn't be worried about your cell phone, your past or your future! All that would matter is being inside your body right Now because Now is all we ever have, every time we have it! It's where real Joy lives.
4. Relax and Breathe- under Stress, staying in that beautiful/ parasympathetic part of your mind vs. Holding your Breath like a Scared Animal and going to that awful/ sympathetic part of your mind. Where that scared little kid and monster lives! Relaxing and breathing under stress without checking-out is the key to maintainin a low Internal Volume. Maintaining a low Internal Volume is the key to Peace, Joy and Happiness!
In a controlled environment we are using Safe Shapes to create Good Stress (vs. Perfect Poses) to practice not holding our breath, and not wanting to be someplace else, preparing us to better manage the Toxic/ Chaotic stress found daily in the Real World!
THE STARTLINE- Slow everything down and start letting go of all your "BUSY!" Look DEEP into the Mirror and connect with the Real You, and start letting go of your Ego! To get quiet and soft, removing all the lies, bull, and biases you've been selling yourself and everyone else! Get still enough to find the real you, which may very well be that scared kid curled up on the floor in the fetal. We want to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, give ourselves a Big Hug, and promise to never abandon ourselves again! Slowing everything down and looking deep into that mirror...well, that's a scary place for lots of folks! Everyone learns at their own pace! Its here, and it's free when you are ready 🙏

"We just did a study on yoga for people with PTSD. We found that yoga was more effective than any medicine that people have studied up to now. That doesn't mean yoga cures it, but yoga makes a substantial difference in the right direction. "

"Improper breathing is a common cause of ill health. If I had to limit my advice on healthier living to just one tip, it would be simply how to learn to breathe correctly. There is no single more powerful- or more simple- daily practice to further your health and wellbeing than breathwork."
